Silk Route Museum!!!
The Silk Road is an ancient trade route connecting Asia and Europe, an important bridge that promotes economic and cultural exchange, and a thoroughfare that holds a treasure trove of historic sites. It can be classified into the Northern Silk Road and Southern Silk Road on land, and the Maritime Silk Road on the sea.
To date the Silk Route Fund has created three museums along the Northern Silk Road. The first is the Silk Route Museum (Chinese: 丝绸之路博物馆) is located in Jiuquan, Gansu Province along the Silk Road, a trading route connecting Rome to China, used by Marco Polo. completed in 2010, it is built above the former site of Wei and Jin Dynasty underground tombs and is located near the westernmost fortress of the Great Wall of China. The museum covers an area of 12,000 square meters and features relics, sculptures, and works of art from over 100 civilizations cataloguing the history of the Silk Road.
The Silk Route Museum is an Institution devoted to the History and modern times of the Ancient Silk Road. The museum holds in trust for China and the world a rare collection of historic ancient Silk Road treasures that embodies the history, mystery, and life of these unique times. The museum's extensive exhibits include rare antique ceramics, jades, bronze wares, and artifacts that originated from the rich historic past of the Silk Route. The King's Tomb and Queens Tomb are spectacular exhibits that are open to public viewing.
Construction on our second Silk Route Museum was completed in 2016, with the grand opening scheduled for this year. It is located at the ruins of the ancient Suoyang City, a 2,000 year old United Nations World Heritage Site which was once an important commercial hub on the Silk Road.
Our third Silk Route Museum will be completed on 2017 year. It is a natural history museum located in Dunhuang, another important city in the history of the Silk Road, home to the world-famous Mogao Caves and the Singing Sand Mountain sand dunes.
In 2014 we began development on our largest project yet, the Silk Route Culture Expo Park, which is being built around the Silk Route Museum in Jiuquan. The expo area covers more than two million square meters with an expected construction period of five years. The purpose of the expo is to simulate the essence of life and culture along the Silk Road as it existed in old times. The park aims to recreate the travel, leisure, dining, entertainment, shopping and architectural experience of more than 50 regions along the ancient Silk Road, from Xi’an to Rome.
We are also currently planning another museum to help meet the growing demand for Silk Road tourism in Dunhuang, where more than one million tourists visited last year. Located beside the West Thousand Buddha Caves, it will be one of the world’s largest museums with a building area of 290,000 square meters. In addition to historical artifacts, in the spirit of the Silk Road, the museum will feature an extensive art gallery showcasing modern works created by domestic and foreign artists from around the world. The goal of this project is to create another landmark for Dunhuang, and to create another milestone for Silk Road cultural tourism.
The Silk Route Museum invites and welcomes you to come take part in making history by taking part in the preservation and cultural trade along the Silk Road.
